Leap of Faith

Hey, guys! I just finished Leap of Faith -- and WOW, what a ride!

I loved the teasing flirting between Asuma and Natsumi at the beginning, and how she's not so easily flustered, even though she's very proper. *grins* They just slayed me, with the banter -- and her dropping his muffin! *dies*

And the timeskip was AWESOME. I was killed with laughter. I love that she doesn't just fall to his charms -- no, no, she's annoyed by him! And he just keeps it up, happy to annoy! *dies* Oh, Asuma. You're a special one. What a great way to tell us what was going on, and how well they're getting along. YAY!

And then that FIGHT. Holy crap! Okay, not so much a fight as an ambush on their ambush... but SO WELL DONE. I was on the edge of my seat! Ki, that description of drowning -- YIPES. And when Asuma grabs her and they both topple into the water -- ACK! By the time they get around to falling off the waterfall I'd chewed my pinky nail down. Look! Look! No pinky nail. Sadsad. I loved Natsumi powering through the seals despite the broken fingers, and Asuma dragging chakra from his heart and lungs -- EEK! *FLAILS!*

Talk about packing a huge punch in a short thread! MAN, you guys. The bar for action scenes has just been lifted, damn you both. ;-D

Just some fast and dirty notes on a couple of arcs in progress, because I don't want to say too much but I don't want to deprive you of feedback. I've been putting off writing this for ages. :D

Asuma&Tsume: I was loving this very much. I really liked that Tsume is interacting with someone new and fresh for her, and someone who finds her very attractive but is not at all aggressive. He's just what she needs right now. I am loving Asuma HARD, and the way both characters play off each other is a real joy. I also seriously LOVED that Tsume couldn't get a read on him because of all the nicotine - he's basically the first person she has had to treat as an ordinary human would - she has to be able to trust him properly, not cheat by sniffing out his emotions. This way he also can't freak her out with his lusty thoughts either. XD They make a great team, and I definitely want to see more of them both.

Ginta&Ryouma: I love that we can see that Ryouma feels really deeply for Kakashi. Things I really liked: the clone being totally obsessed with Kakashi and not taking his eyes off him; that Ryouma is being a total punk to a rich lady; that said rich lady looks past that; that Chihiro always thinks of him as "Kakashi's...friend." That made me lol so hard. He is his special...friend. XD Fun times. And also that she previously got hit with cluestick when she realises that Ginta is not the only homo in ANBU, because Sakumo's kid is too! So when Ginta makes her call for Ryouma, I squee'd hard, because I am sad. It was like outside clarification of the R&K relationship. Finally, Ryouma camping out in Kakashi's hospital room made me very gleeful.

I am super excited.

We love your fast and dirty notes. :DD

*dances around!* I'm so glad you're loving the Pirates arc! There's one more thread to go to wrap it up, though the bulk of it is up now. :D It's SO MUCH FUN to write Tsume with Asuma, being unable to smell him and use the cues she uses unconsciously. He really is just what she needs, and the fact that she can't tell he's attracted goes a long way toward keeping her comfortable! *laughs* We have several threads planned with them, so keep a watch out. *grins*

*dances!*

So, it's been quite a while since the Genma/Raidou mission concluded, but I suppose it's never too late to give you fanart. And since this was my reason for joining lj in the first place, I'll feel extremely silly if I don't put it up.

It's not great art, because I'm not a great artist, but it's the thought that counts, yes? (apologies for the scan quality as well...)

I drew it pretty much immediately after finishing "Meet You on the Other Side;" it was such an emotional thread, with such amazing imagery at the end, I couldn't help it.

So I hope you enjoy it at least a little :)

I didn't expect to see a thread like this! Wow, confusion and quick thinking all around. Genma's ending line cracked me up.

At approximately 2300 I encountered enemy ninja, one of whom turned out to be on our own fucking side...

This was a good, engaging thread and a nice introduction to Yanagi, too. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these two.

Hey, guys! I just finished reading this and wanted to tell you how much I liked it!

I really love Natsumi's inexperience combined with Asuma's stoicism. It'll be really interesting, over the threads, to see Natsumi harden -- and I LOVED that shooting from afar had kept some of these grim realities from her. It made her reactions really believable, rather than leaving me going, "But she's a ninja! Surely she's seen it!" Nice reminder, there.

I loved Asuma's auto-flirting. That was HILARIOUS. And the understatement of various pain made it so much worse, some how. That stitching -- AGH. I'm really enjoying his threads in general, and the way he basically never gets emo. When he has these occasional little ow lines (like when he thinks about his old female teammate), they pack so much more of a punch because of it.

Natsumi's blushing is cracking me up. And I loved how, after she broke down, Asuma started playing Hero -- and she got all pissy and stuff. THAT WAS BRILLIANT. Because I don't know her well, I was just starting to expect to see a damsel thread -- but I should have known better. That was so great. *grins*

Now, perhaps I'll get to read the third one before another month goes by. >.<

I love the newest Genma thread. I've been waiting for more information regarding how his hands were healed. My heart ached for him as I was reading, especially as I know what effect it has on him in the present.

Excellent, as always.

Yanagi is wonderful, and suddenly having so many new perspectives in the ANBU group is so much fun to read. Yanagi's portrayal and the details of what his missions mean to all sides of the situation are awesome (Yanagi's experiences as the spy, Genma's experiences as the Konoha agent, and the little snippets of the effects on the people Yanagi works with). I love that Yanagi gets involved enough to mourn his targets. Looking forward to more of him!

I've been away for a couple of weeks. :D I loved Karma's Bitch; I thought it was so refreshing to have a story centred around espionage. The whole setup and execution of the cover-up was an incredibly thrilling read, and I completely adored the interaction between these two characters. Keep up the good work!

So...I've been reading since Scarlet Spiral days and only just realized/remembered there is a guestbook/ooc community. Ahaha, a little slow. But! I adore reading pretty much everything you guys write. Like, way too much, actually. Like, I always tell myself, "oh, I'll just spend 20 minutes reading one thread..." As indicated by the number of times I've read until dawn, that obviously doesn't happen.

When I don't need to be starting my homework now that it's hours later than I intended, I'll leave a much longer, probably even more fangirl-ishly effusive comment. For now, since I just read FUBAR and Karma's Bitch, I just want to say that I love Yanagi. His two threads are awesome - definitely satisfied my craving for clever ninja badassery (and, one of my favorite characters, Genma) and piqued my interest as to where else Yanagi will pop up. I can't wait.

So. Thank you for giving me such wonderful stories to become engrossed in!

*SCREAMS WITH JOY*

I am incredibly happy to see new threads, and I had a great time this morning, curled up in bed reading them on my iPod. :)

I love the evolution of the Ryouma/Kakashi relationship, and the continued fleshing-out of Ginta's character.

I also liked the play between Genma and Rina, and the outside view on how much Raidou is coming to mean to him.

Firstly, I still completely adore Hiro. It was nice to see a bit more of him trying to out-think his elders and learn sneaky!skills.

Secondly, OMG YES AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.I was surfing the net on my iPod about 4 a.m. because I'd woken up and couldn't get back to sleep, and I saw a new Genma&Raidou thread and clicked on it. Then I got the the line "D'you remember that time we went out for curry?" And stopped, because I'd started laughing hysterically (very, very quietly), and I'd figured out what he was going to say next but was kind of too nervous to look.

...so I skipped over to my LJ friends page to kind of enjoy the anticipation, and also because I was a bit worried (and not quite sane OR awake, because, 4 a.m...) and saw Dark's post:

"Genma and Raidou manage to talk the nurses into letting outside for a shared cigarette. Then they do some more talking. And then..."

and I swear I nearly died with glee. So I went back and read the rest, and had a gigglefit through the whole thing. (It was now about 5 a.m...)

So! I loved it. I lovd what was going on in Raidou's head, and I cracked up at him wanting to make a mmph! noise, and this:

"Deep inside his chest, in a locked, painful place that he'd spent far too long ignoring, something clicked. Something lit up and burned."

Lock, meet key. This is totally the most important relationship of your life. <3 I also felt that the awkwardness and the "OMG I knew I liked a guy but now I ACTUALLY LIKE A GUY. HOMOSEXUALLY." panic were very realistic.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR LIKE TWO YEARS THANK YOU GUYS. <3 <3 <3

I really love that last Genma and Yanagi thread. Yanagi is so cool, and he and Genma are so much fun together. You know, as much as I heart the One True Love of Genma and Raidou, I kind of ship Genma/Yanagi too. It's all light-hearted and cute (love song!) and only a little psychotic - I hope we'll see more threads with those two. :)

Ahem. First of all, this made me squee all over the floor. It was made of too much awesome. My heart squeed until my internal organs were all messed up.

Ginta is so gentle, and he sounds so fragile, caught between Ryouma and Kakashi, and Kakashi is EPIC, for he's AWAKEEEE! And everyone is just suspended there, hanging on that thin thread, and there's tension in the room and oh man oh man, SQUEE.

SQUEE to the epic writing, since these three, this non-love triangle is so epic, and the footing is so unsure, yet somehow, everyone's vaguely standing vertically and everything is EPIC.

I was gonna do a really long post. I realised that I couldn't, since nothing could convey the sheer joy and emotional stunt-flying that this thread put me through, so I worked on some fanart, instead.

Anyways, I wasn't sure whether they were on the bed, lying, or upright. So it's kinda liberty-ish. : / so ahem, sorry if there's any discrepancies, but ahem.

http://silvercaffiene.deviantart.com/art/Comfort-136337634

So there it is! I hope it delivers. :DDD

Also, I'm sorry there's only one, and I'm working on a Ginta one, and hopefully a GenRai one, after my lessons end.

Cheers! :D

Thank you for so many years

I have been following this since the beginning of Scarlet Spiral all those years ago. There have been a lot changes in writers, characters have loved and died, and indeed the whole FL universe was created from the ashes of the SS one. I have loved these characters, cried, and laughed, and squealed with them through their trials; even the original characters fill me with love which is an abnormality for me.

I have never commented before. I have allowed my shyness to make me a remiss reader and for that I apologize. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the hard work you all have poured into this labour of love. The level of writing here is phenomenal and I hope that inspiration continues to strike you for many years to come.

Also, on a completely fangirlish note, I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am to see Raidou and Genma finally confront themselves and get together! I had to walk away from the computer so that my happy flailing wouldn't knock it off the desk. No exaggeration, I have been waiting years for that to finally come to fruition. Lets not contemplate what it says about my life that I have invested so emotionally in a completely fictional relationship... ;D

Best of luck to all of you, I cannot wait to watch you develop this universe. You are the most talented group of authors that I have come across on the internet, and I have spent many a year scouring for fanfic.

At the risk of sounding redundant I shall say one last time, THANK YOU!

I am really enjoying this, guys! The almost baffled brittleness in Ryuichi, the undirected rage in Katsuko, the dialogue, the moves, the reasons - it's all good!

Keep on writing, you two! The action and feelings are just as short and snappy and sharp as I could hope for from thread like this, and I want to see the rest!

NEW HIRO/GINTA THREAD

"Kakashi had wanted proof Ginta was alive--he'd gotten that. And then Kakashi'd wanted proof he himself was alive, and the only one he wanted that proof from was Ryouma."

I found this really interesting. And also very worrying, on Kakashi's side. But Ginta needs seriously to get away from those two and get himself a nice boyfriend. Their friendship is so totally wrecked and needs time to recover without all the crazy resentment and misunderstandings.

Hiro and Ginta together are seriously adorable, and I love how they are both trying one-up each other ALL THE TIME. It's so much fun. And it's nice too see a more cheerful Ginta for a change.

Okay kids, this is now one of the best threads I have ever read on Fallen Leaves. It's a total showcase of both of your best, and of your characters, and I just love it.

It's just gorgeously spare - in words, in movement, but not in content. It takes a special kind of talent to pull that off and I think you guys did it. I don't think I've ever read a character interaction that managed to be so clear and so raw without being over the top.

The synchro of the fighting, the feelings, the reasons and the thoughts was just ace. Love it guys. Thanks for posting it!

I've been feeling guilty about not leaving reviews. There were so many threads being posted for a while that I started needing to take notes. I then realized my notes about what I loved were becoming opuses, and I needed to find a way to focus in one just a few key points per story. That seemed impossible, and I delayed unforgiveably. I recently started rereading all the stories, with an eye toward finally reviewing again. Along the way, I've found only more subtle points to enjoy (Kakashi's hair rising like a dog's in one, for example). I am also enjoying seeing how the characters grow and change.

Seeing Kakashi in particular, open up and admit Ryouma, even in the latest story, seeing him establishing Ryouma a place in the pack. Seeing Kakashi relaxed, even joyful at rare moments, and joking rather than just snarking (I'll wear the dress) was wonderful. Then, when he takes the opportunity his orders permitted to share a pain he could not even with Obito, seeking absolution at best and understanding at the least, and he gets a new acid bath of guilt. Yet it is so understandable from Ryouma's standpoint, but developing to the point where he will never let Kakashi see him fail again, i.e., that his trust is lost, is heartbreakingly painful. Kakashi learns a valuable lesson that we see him later testing his prospective students for (and acknowledging the importance of his father's actions still later) -- but you make us see how almost impossible it would be for him to see what is so clear to Ryouma. After all, if adherence to rules need not be absolute, then the treatment of his father and his father's response would be unforgiveable -- and how difficult it would be to be loyal still to the village to the point of being willing to do all that Kakashi is called upon to do in ANBU.

Ryouma and Tsume might now have a chance, and while Ryouma hurts, his commitment has always seemed less than Kakashi's (but more not less endearing for his willingness to give all he could). It seems Hoshika (and I loved that Kakashi summoned her as soon as he could, and pled for her treatment) was right to be wary of Ryouma. Kakashi having opened up so much to one person, and then having that person leave of their own choice (yes, at least not dead), is heartbreaking. Beautifully told and foretold, I hope there is a way that can be found that Kakashi does not retreat back into his lonely solitude.

So Ryouma's break when he saw Tsume might have been caused somewhat by fearing for Hana what had happened to him. A mother not coming back from a mission.

We still don't know who Hana's father is, but we do know how Ryouma feels about boxer briefs.
