DOOM Aftermath . . .
[info]lobademibu
2008-10-26 02:52 am UTC (link)
Because I'm too lazy to go back through every separate thread for details again, I'll have to do an umbrella comment. Here goes:

First let me say: teh ANGST, it kills meh . . . I LURVE IT!! XDDDD

WOW. These three are angsting enough for all of ANBU right now. But it's AWESOME. And the reason it's AWESOME is because you write it so REAL.

Like when Kakashi woke up in the hospital and his sharingan was making him see things. The way he reacts to it, and then to Ryouma. OMG. BEAUTIFUL. I'm convinced you people were war veterans in your past lives, because otherwise how would you know how to write scenes like those. It's residual memories, I'm telling you. *nods sagely*

Their argument on the roof top killed me. Oh dear bob, what fantastic characterizations you people write. I just LOVE how stubborn Ryouma is, and how he won't be pushed away. I just FRICKIN LOVE IT. *breaks out pompoms and cheers for Ryouma*

If I may backtrack, Tsume waking up really tore at my heart too. I would have thought that after waking up not only without Kuromaru in sight, but unable to feel him through their chakra bond, that she would go berserk. Instead the way she quietly just sort of, I dunno, I wanna say broke . . .

Whatever you wanna label it, JB, you killed me DED with it. *sniffles* If I may allude to my comment to Dark, SCREW YOU.

Okay the dog pile on the hospital bed? CUTENESS, LIEK WHOA. And how before that, how Kakashi was able to bring Ryouma back to himself by showing his face. UGH, BRILLIANT.

Ki, you have done such a marvelous job in dealing with Ryouma's trauma after the mission. I was afraid for some time that the new traumatized Ryouma would be impossible to reconcile with the old Ryouma I'd come to love so much. But you've found the perfect balance and fucking just AHHHHH . . . I love him even more now.

TSUME, MY LOVE!! This women delights me. I am SOOOO happy that she has no fear whatsoever of getting touched by Ryouma. Of course she wasn't the one touched in the first place. I'm dying to see how Kuromaru will react, not only because he was the one who was actually touched, but because he isn't human, so his reactions, I presume, will be different from a human's.

What else? OMG!! Tsume and Kakashi's thread!! *Dies laughing* Do you have any idea how frickin CUTE it was to read them arguing over what Ryouma smelled like? Frickin hawt sauce, that was just glee worthy.

Raidou visiting kinda surprised me, that big softy. *pokes* I liked seeing Tsume have a moment of weakness. And the way Raidou handled it was spectacular. I would not mind having him as a friend.

But most of all I loved the glimpse his visit provided into Tsume's family life. And what a tough life. OMG, I would NEVER wanna be an Inuzuka. Not when I have to worry about people trying to supersede my authority/place in the pack every time I get hurt or show some kind of weakness. That's so . . . well it's beyond my comprehension really. I can't imagine not being able to completely count on unconditional support of my family while I'm done and out. I'd go crazy it I had to deal with something like the Tanaka or Taro's behavior. UGH. *spew*

(Character limits suck worse than vacuums)

oooo what an interesting look at an ANBU mission and Chuunin :) I really liked the originallity of this one! Great job Nezu :) I really enjoyed reading it!

I hadn't read the Kaito/Raidou thread from a few weeks ago yet so now I have to go back and get caught up to finish it :) but thats not a hardship! :)

I don't usually do anything other than sing praises to you guys, but this thread broke the camel's back where Kaito was concerned, and I just can't keep quiet about it. I want to be honest with you all, because I really admire and respect your work; I hope can do so without offending you.

To put it bluntly, I can't stand Kaito.

First of all, I find his introduction very . . . forced. I fail to wrap my head around it. And the whole Intel scene at the beginning of thread just worsened that view. It just has awkward plot point written all over it, and kinda makes the overall narrative flow of the game stutter and choke obscenely.

Although I must compliment JB in one thing, and that is in inventing and depicting a half bloodline limit real enough to jump off the screen and affect the reader, or at least this reader.

Only problem with that is, I'm one of those people who reacts by wanting to beat the shit out of Kaito. Just grab a paddle and break it over his naive, immature, conflammed irritating little head.

Some of his thoughts and reactions are slightly amusing in the way a annoying teenager can be nominally entertaining. But it's not enough of a saving grace to keep my wrath for him at bay. I hate characters who don't listen, who can't take a hint or clue. In this last thread with Genma, I found my desire to smack him steadily increasing with each of his responses. It literally got to the point where I start skimming, almost skipping over really, his responses and just reading Genma's because I thought I would punch the screen in irritation. Genma has the patience of a saint, bless him.

I feel like Kaito has entered ANBU with "the streets are paved in gold" syndrome. I HATE people with that syndrome. It makes me want to smash their faces into the pavement and say: "Lookie here, CEMENT."

I'm assuming you gave him this syndrome on purpose, and that you are planning for him to mature, greatly, throughout the course of this game. I actually can't wait for the long life-altering shit mission that will do this for Kaito. I look forward to that, because as he is right now, I honestly don't think I could stomach reading another thread with him.

And that is my utterly honest opinion. Please forgive me if I was too harsh, or if I have offended.

~Loba

Ryouma/Ginta thread

oh ladies... hehe I almost never read Fallen leaves in public :) (and if I read it at work i pull my office door shut) and oh my... I read this thread while flying for work this morning and it was so hard not to make any sounds gah I wanted to talk to the computer and laugh and just ARGH! lolol I bet I still looked stupid at least my seatmate was asleep :)

This was totally rip your heart out fantastic. Ryouma's "I'm not in love we just had sex but i'm straight" and Ginta's "I don't care about him I'm just well caring about him" was so painful but so honest and wonderful and just argh :D When Ryouma talked about how to get through to Kakashi and how fucked up he is and how much he *NEEDS* someone it was so right on target!! Heheh I wish I could see Kakashi's reaction to that kind of statement but Ryouma seems to have part of him pretty well figured out...

I hope Ryouma and Kakashi can talk sometime soon O_O or at least interact!

Thank you both for a wonderful thread -- my heart hurts for Ginta :( he's pretty broken too it seems at least in the caring about people department!

Kakashi oneshot thread - about Hell

Oh oh Dark... that is just plain evil!! I read Kakashi's thread on a different flight this morning and was glad I was sitting alone because I think I got tears in my eyes :( poor thing!!! I mean oh god to do that about Minato... that level of sadness/disquiet/desperation oh Kakashi he needs cuddles so badly O_O and he wants to stab you instead of get any hugs or affection or companionship and he is kinda falling apart at the seams. I like Ryouma's assement that Kakashi is still in mission mode and if he's not sleeping it sounds like it.

Now that the dog is called back and the Minato stunt pulled then I'm guessing Kakashi can't even summon another dog :( so he's completely alone again O_O :((( trying not to cry at his friends graves which is some of the saddest writing as far as Kakashi goes on here :(

It's really wonderful writing even though it's so painful to read. Oddly enough after reading this I wanted to go back adn reread Mission of Doom from Kakashi appearing to Ryouma (those parts are my favorite <3) heheh I was so like ARGH b/c I couldn't load any new pages while flying so no way to reread at the moment though maybe I can work it in with all the travel I'm doing this week :)

Genma/Raidou/Kaito threads
[info]ashcat
2008-10-28 07:36 am UTC (link)
Love Genma and Raidou in all of these threads :) (and I snicker Dark everytime Raidou says something disparaging against Kakashi )

Genma and Raidou together was great, especially seeing Genma comforting Raidou in their manly best friend way. I'm glad despite the kiss they are staying just as close and am eager to see what throwing the newb in their lives will do with them.

Kaito... i'm going to reserve opinion on until I see more of him. I at least found his bio amusing enough to read the whole thing :) (go JB!) I don't dislike or like him at this point he's just sorta there like any new character. I admit I'm eager to see him interact with the other characters, and it's interesting to see a foil for Ryouma the other newb and how they are so very different. I keep thinking he must be younger than 18 because he acts like a 15 year old he's so awkward and untrained but there is some backstory to try to justfiy it so we'll see...

I did like Kaito and Raidou's thread that felt like it worked and it was so Raidou to hurt himself into of the kid to keep breaking out of the genjutsu... Genma and Kaito was less smooth but it was still interesting to read. I was a bit surprised by all the patience that Genma showed Kaito despite Kaito being a complete whiny asshole teenager but we'll see how long it lasts :) (both the patience and the attitude). Thanks to all 3 of you for your lovely writing and for sharing it with us :)

Perhaps it was the title. Perhaps it was my deeply religious childhood. But I could hear 'Night, With Ebon Pinion' (a hymn with words from 1853) in my head as I read this. Especially, "let this cup of anguish pass from me, I pray". The parallels between Kakashi and Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane are extreme for me. The apostles have fallen asleep and left Jesus alone (Kakashi's dogs are unavailable), and God will not answer Jesus' prayer (Minato is dead). We used to meditate on this image of Jesus suffering for our sins as we took communion, and it's pretty well burned in.

Please tell me that was on purpose. Because you made this 12-years-away-from-a-sermon ex-Christian have to put her head between her knees and take deep breaths. Damn, you got me good.

'Puppy of Emo Meets...'

Do I remember it being said that Kaito only messes with emotions that are already there - he can't create them?

If so, this is (very slightly) hilarious and also quite sad: Kakashi really does need a meltdown.

Yeah, so I've already done individual feedback via IM, but...

I just wanted to say this is an awesome little arc. From a storytelling perspective, it's great--specific point, tension, resolution--without wandering all over the place to do so.

And I'm glad to see Ginta and Ryouma speaking again. But even, er, gladder to see the hint of tension still there. Ginta's concern over getting another boyfriend--not! I mean, not boyfriend! ;-D--poached, and Ryouma's trying to offer Kakashi back. Oh, denial. You are not just a river in Egypt. *grins*

Love this. Well done. :D

A pair of stories that parallel each other beautifully. Beyond the terrific titles ("Eww, What's that Smell?" and the even better "Dog of War Meets Puppy of Emo"), both start off lightly, with humor and the coming together of disparate elements -- and then tighten dramatically, almost out of control (never the authors' though), with high potential for damage rather like hurricanes of emotion.

The Genma and Tsume story is just brilliantly written. The shift from the humor of Genma's attempt to develop an undetectable poison and Tsume's strong discomfort with Genma's home territory to Tsume using all of her skills and experience to lance that long festering boil was subtle. So much is revealed, and it is Tsume's inherent honesty that makes it so very believable (i.e., what seems unlikely at first for these two characters is skillfully shown by the authors to be a highly logical sequence of events).

I had longed for a meeting between Kakashi and Kaito, but once Kaito's fear of dogs was revealed had relunctantly dropped the possibility. Bringing them together at precisely this moment was genius. Once again, the humor was a delight, with Kakashi's direction to Kaito to go away and come back when he has time to ignore him properly a quintessential Kakashi statement. Kakashi's fragility and desparate attempts to pull himself together was painful to witness even before Kaito bounded up like an eager puppy looking to get an autograph in his bingo book. The swift escalation from there was incredible and once again, completely true to the characters. Kaito's fear did not magically disappear even as the pack intervened to protect him (the fact that he was able to think through his panic was promising for the character). Kakashi's ability to deduce the problem and take action, even while submerged in the emotional maelstrom, showed both his genius and his strength. The individual actions with each dog were great, whether it be Pakkun's offense at Kaito's assumptions, Shiba's careful ignoring of Kakashi, the combined actions to protect Kaito, or the way Kakashi almost unconsciously holds on to Shouma. Love as well as humor just shines through their interactions.

Poor Kakashi was just starting to pull it together and enter Kaito. Poor Kaito just wanted an autograph and enter Pakkun...who was supposed to be training, but "supposed to" is such a flexible phrase. Now Kaito is terrified and so is Kakashi, who thought he had dealt with that at the monument.

I loved this! The dialog between Pakkun and Kakahi was priceless. The loyalty and ability of Kakashi's pack to handle Kakashi and the situation before it spiraled any further was touching. The anxiety and terror that poor Kaito felt and past onto Kakshi was very well done.

Let's just hope someone warns him about Tsume.

It's so frustrating when you think you have successfully done something just to have someone else notice an error. How lucky for Genma that Tsume has such a sensitive nose and is willing to help in spite of her sensitive nose.

Its good for Tsume to have a bit of a distraction while Kuromaru heals.

"Crotchticks" "Black-faced wolf" "Pus infected crotchro--ticks." What a delightfully colorful vocabulary. She is obviously not a happy helper. Good luck Genma.

Ok. Autographs? Autographs?
. . . Pfffftt. *headeskcackle*

That is so stupid, naive, immature . . . and irritatingly endearing. I want to continue hating him completely, but you gave him dimples, which kinda makes me wanna poke his cheek . . . And to top it all off, you wrote this:

But first, he turned around and got his bingo book out of the garbage.

. . . Have you been taking lessons from Dark on how to provoke love/hate relationships? I think you have. Either way, you suck. Like vacuums. So there. XP

Kakashi. Kakashi. Kakashi.

asklfnkjafgl.wavnazn fkljas;fq

My love just keeps growing for him. Oh man, everything you wrote in this thread just slew me.

"I could take you."

"I could kick you."

Pakkun + Kakashi = so much friggin love. XDDD

And it didn't matter if Shiba refused to look at him. Or that Hoshika refused to look away, as if he'd shatter the moment she turned her back.

AUGH! Teh love!! It chokes me to death!! I want a copy of Hoshika especially.

And then there was the bingo book and pen, held out with a look that reminded Kakashi of tumbling puppies in a shop window, all hope and zero common sense.

O.o . . . OMG TEH IMAGERY!!! *Dies*

The way you wrote Kakashi's reaction to Kaito's limit . . . and Pakkun too, no? That is why he got so upset over the biting issue, wasn't it? Anyway, the way you wrote those is-- I don't even know if I have words for the awesomeness . . . It was powerful, and shocking, and heartbreaking.

Crucified beneath a dog pack, there wasn't much left to do but gasp for breath and feel like the world was falling down.

o.O . . . TEH IMAGERY!!!!! *Dies Again*

This thread was made of awesome. Great job you two.

I have been haunting the outskirts of ff.net for quite some time in a somewhat desparate attempt to find some fiction that was actually worth reading... and then I stumbled upon the brilliant writings of Nezuko, which, in turn, have lead me here.

And this ended up a veritable treasure trove!! The quality of the writing is fantastic, and the portrayal of my fav. character Kakashi is heartbreakingly beautiful... I just couldn't stop reading - so I have now lived through the past couple of days on what is an entirely inadequa

sorry - my comp seems to have had a spaz and decided to post that for me :S

Aanyway back to my ramble on your utter brilliant-ness...

-ate amount of sleep XD. And I REALLY REALLY REALLY need to know what happens next - So far the interaction between Kakashi and Ryouma has had me on the edge of my seat and obsesively checking to see if anything has been updated, and then having mini-depression when I find it hasn't XP.

Sorry, other characters too - I can't JUST focus on Kakashi, as much as I would love to *winks*.

I actually adore Tsume and her children - I didn't at first - the whole, I'm a mother but I'm going back to ANBU just didn't sit right with me, but she has so grown on me, I actually cried during the DOOM mission. Actually, all of you lot make me cry quite a lot - I hope you're happy *grins*. Its the strenght of emotion thats carried through in the writing that does it every time.

Although I think I should get used to it by now, you're not too keen on the light, jokey storylines are you *raises eyebrow*? I always get tricked into the belief that its going to be funny and then BAM! The emotion whacks you straight in the heart! Like 'Dog of War meets Puppy of Emo' - there I was thinking it was going to be a short, amusing sort of jokey interaction... but no - we ended up exploring just how messed up both Kakashi and Kaito are XP.

Aww and Ginta!! He is sooo adorable! I totally am in love with him as a character! So now I want to know what happens there too!! He's been messed up so much I don't want Kakashi to do anymor damage, but he sort of has already, and its all one big downward sprial.. I don't suppose you can get them to reconcile? Although I'm not totally sure where the Ryouma/Kakashi/Tsume relationship would fit with the Ginta/Kakashi one, but hey, I'm sure there's room for one more eh?

And my new idol is Haruichi! I think he is well one of the funniest character out there and 'Come Hell or High Water' was devastatingly funny, depsite the seriousness - Pakkun and Haruichi make a great team!!

And Genma and Raidou's relationship is fascinating! I love the way that they are there for each other - it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside XD

I have just remembered 'Before You Hit the Ground'! There was some astounding writing there - especially with such a tough subject matter, I'm impressed at how well it was handled - so kudos go to you both, and Kanae, her comments and insights just added to it. It was shocking to see Kakashi, who always seemed the invulnerable type to be hurt like that - he gets hurt but he just doesn't show it, and for him to almost subconciously admit he needed help was a big step for him!

Hmm somehow I've ended up back at Kakashi, but ah well.

I just want to say thank you for the amazing writing and finally giving me something worth reading in the Naruto fandom!

Update the Ryouma/Kakashi arc soon? Pretty please *puppyeyes*??

So, Raidou shouldn't blame Kakashi (Genma could , but for different reasons), This is what goes with Kaito (Raidou should understand that ---with the use of a poisoned senbon).

I was so uncomfortable with this thread, but now I LOVE it way to go.

What a surpirisingly warm and fuzzy thread!

I was wating for the death and mayhem to begin (as it seems to happen with this type of thread, but it didn't *gasps*), and I have to admit that it was a gorgeously written, Raidou is (and I can't belive I'm saying this, but there seems to be no other way to describe it) so cute, he had me 'awww'-ing all the way through!

Also Kaito seems to be growing on me - I wasn't too sure about him at first, but this thread won me over *becomes Kaito fan*!

Well done!!

Aww I liked it :) It was good to see Kaito isn't going to be a whiny crybaby and rat out Kakashi (oh lord that's a pack of drama we don't need I'm sure it'll comeout eventually!)

Very cute thread :)

Eww, What's That Smell?

Finally got the chance to sit down and read the remaining 3 pages of Eww, What's That Smell. The talk of triggers, alpha's, family, friends, perspectives and ANBU. Definitely two shinobis who needed to talk.

While at first Tsume reminded me of a cat with the way she was toying with Genma's emotions to get his different smells; when it got down to it, I think she was the one that really needed to talk to someone who hadn't been close enough to that mission to have their own baggage, but someone who understood baggage. And Genma was her man. While he may not have been cut from the same cloth as Tsume, he had a lot of insight to life as a ninja and where that wasn't quite enough, he compassion for a fellow ANBU trying to cope with the fall out of a mission gone bad.

It was an incredible exchange between the two. And it swept believably from topic to topic almost like a dance between the two characters.

I'm really glad you guys like to write this stuff, because it is some of the best reading I have found.

Yeah, Ginta has a Fanboy. Just kidding, well not really. Kotetsu is acting like a fanboy right now, but then Ginta needs a friend right now and if Kotetsu can prove himself on this mission...he may not have to be a fanboy forever. Its fun to see the younger ANBU members interact with the seasoned ones.

Ew, Whats That Smell?

Wow, a deep thread this one!

I think it was good for both of them to open up to someone they weren't entirely close to - I loved the fact that neither of them were sure as to the others reactions, it made for some very intersting interaction!

It threw me a bit that Tsume wasn't as cocksure and certain as she usually is, but its good to know that she has a softer side too, it sort of makes her more accessible to me as a reader. I adored the way she was written!

Aww, Genma and Ramen, thats a great combo! I love him saying "You'd never know it but my mom once tried to raise me right.", its such a Genma thing to say somehow! He is well up there on the brilliant one-liners leaderboard XD.

And the fact that at the end he burns his tongue its a great way to wrap up the thread. It sort of makes it finished in a way, like that was the way it was supposed to end - ah I dunno how to explain what I mean exactly... But you get the gist XP.

Great work!

...almost complete loss of words

What? I said almost.

I've spent the last month or so reading through all of the threads and I've got to say - I'm floored! It would take entirely too long to go through each one and point out the parts that truly grabbed me, so I'm going to cheat and say that there is not a single thread that I did not enjoy.

This RP, and those writing for it, is absolutely amazing. The thing that really drew me in...While ANBU is the darkest shadows of an already dark universe, you delve into it in such a way that really brings home the soul-shattering, learn-to-bend-before-you're-broken, aspect of this life-style. By not only exploring such dark, angst-filled, nightmare-inducing missions - but also the attempts to build/maintain any form of connection through relationships give it a decidedly human element that makes it entirely believable.

I'm 100% addicted and don't mind it in the least!

Not to mention, you've managed to take 5 of my top 8 characters (Kakashi, Genma, Raidou, Hayate, and Kotetsu) and portray them masterfully. The depth of each character, and the stories that you've written for them have me completely hooked. With each thread, I can see the story unfold in my mind...can feel the emotions as they unfold. And I love the range you spin the reader through. It is rare, to find writers that can truly pull you into their world - so much so, that you can completely immerse yourself in the story until all forms of reality fade into the background.

And the OC’s?

Absolutely brilliant! They seem so realistic for this ‘verse that I expect to see them in the manga/amine. Seriously.

The only one that I was unsure of was Kaito…He seemed a little too emo. As if he was barely held together by severely frayed seams. However, somehow, he’s begun to grow on my – especially with his last two threads. It will be interesting to see how he is developed, how he finds his niche within ANBU, and just what type of influence a combined Raidou/Genma front will have on him!

Meh…I need to quit procrastinating and get back to a far less interesting term paper…

I’m definitely going to be a permanent reader though. This RP is a wonderful escape from reality!
