Justify My Reasons--
Oh, man, guys, I love this. Ko's total embarrassment at EVERYTHING, so lost in crush, and trying to hide his face and being just generally such a teenager. *laughs!* And Ginta with his cluelessness and cheerful babbling. *grins* I was gearing up for a light and happy thread when the target had that moment with his wife--dude, BRUTAL. You guys are masters at turning things from bubbly to tense within just a tag or two--I'm seriously impressed. And can't wait for them to kick his butt. >.> I feel almost as bad for the two ninja, having to wait and witness when they could stop it--and was just really glad she didn't get too badly hurt. Yipe. o.O
Mission: Blow Things Up--
*DIES* this is too funny. I really like the sibling dynamic Ko and Katsu have going here--it's really well written, and awesome to read. The little snippets we get of Katsu's former life are well done. Leaves me wanting to know more. *grins*
In Other News--
No, that's not a thread name. >.> I love how Ko keeps mentioning Ryuichi. And I would like to see more with them. <.< Because I love their dynamic, too! *grins* They're awesome together, and I want to know more about what happened with Ryu. If I knew at one point, I've obviously forgotten. (I suppose this means I could talk to Fade about playing... and yet I keep not getting around to it. I like watching Ryu and Ko together! It's like free entertainment I didn't have to work for! *grins* I know, I'm bad. >.>)
Jobs well done, guys! :D

I was a little confused on the timing of all of this one but got it after reading back over the first post and the info at the top :)
Oh lord ladies you tried to rip our hearts out again!! So much fear and anger and just unhappiness O_O waaa!!! Ryouma tearing up Minato's seals and talking about his ANBU record so far -- just Ryouma's disregard for himself as he's trying to get to Kakashi <3 oh that's love boys :D you may not want to admit but... <3
I was surprised by Ryouma's protective anger about the Ginta incident - for some reason I hadn't really looked at it from Kakashi's POV I admit I had kinda sided with Ginta on that one (I know it's shocking ;) ) and wow Ginta was a big ass there too O_O and now Ryouma has all his protective fury activated! Much more drama to come it seems >_>
I liked poor Kakashi just breaking down, it really fit well here as he's had so much going on and been in mission mode and without real sleep for days and still hasn't recovered from the mission to save Ryouma and Tsume and just everything -- he couldn't hold it together anymore... I'm so glad he didn't completely crash alone :) it all rang very true for his character despite how emotional it all ended up being!
I can't wait to see what happens next with these two :) you know me always hungry for more ;) :D I'd been looking for this thread all week so I was thrilled to see it up :)

DAMMIT KAITO! Stop being dementedly adorable when I'm trying to still hate you!!
*Huffs* >.<
In all seriousness, you do a great job with his nervous ticks. They really make his emotions jump off the page. And he's not a tattle-tale . . . 1000+ bronwnie points!!!!!! ^_^
And Raidou. Pffft. THAT BIG SOFTY!! *glomps*
I was really surprised by his initial reaction, as in him not really teasing at all, until you wrote about the code, and I thought: aaaah, of course!!! Makes sense, good stuff. I loved his reaction to seeing Kaito's bruise: "
Raidou's voice strangled silent
." Oooo, pretty words. ^.^ His protectiveness at the end there was seriously adorable. Oh, and how he thought of what Genma told him!! Aww, just
awwww
!!! ^///^ I dunno why that makes me so giddy per se. I think Raidou and Genma thinking about each other makes me giddy in general. *big grin* Heeeee!! ^_____^

I actually love you guys!!!
That was so heart-warming and heartbreaking and fuzzy and angsty all at the same time, that I practically exploded!!!
It was some fantastic interaction between the two characters, and I have decided that Ryouma is actually now one of my favourite character (who cares that he's not in the manga, he exists here doesn't he? >_>). I'm
so
glad that he was there for Kakashi, and I don't care if he won't admit it, but it's
SO
love between those two. And about time, Kakashi could really do with being in a proper relationship rahter than a one night stand. I think he needs to know that someone is out there who likes him for being him, and not just as a shag buddy for the night.
Awwww portective!Ryouma is absolutely adorable! His reaction the the Ginta episode really opened my eyes, I sort of thought what Ginta was doing wasn't right, but then Kakashi's reaction made me sympathise with Ginta rather than Kakashi, but after that I went back and read it again, and now, I'm all for Kakashi's reaction, although the Ginta sympathy is still there to some extent ^^. So go him!! The fact that he cared enough about Kakashi to destroy his door, when he full well knew that it could kill him was just gorgeous!
Well, I think thats it for mow, so I just want to say thanks for providing such a good read!!!

So much to love. Pots and Kettles conveys a wonderful sense of home and a warm corner of sanity in the insane world of ANBU. Seeing two characters that have been through so much, still having the courage to make such a home gives hope for all.
Justify My Reasons is another type of delight, Ginta hurting, babbling, and oblivious to Kotetsu's crush while Kotetsu is trying so very hard leads us nicely down a humerous path. The revelation that Ginta is indeed more complex, with darker depths than he lets his surface show, and in this moment just a little insane, was a brilliant twist.
When Push Came to Shove was also terrific (the pine cone and snow fight were particularly nice moments). The hinted darkness of the mission instead becoming a confrontation with the past promptly sent me back on a search through the earlier Kotetsu stories -- so more to come.
Mission Blow Things Up was fun. Somehow as soon as the words "This mission wouldn't be much of a hassle" showed up, the reader just knows the mission will be going to heck. A great read, full of suspense and fun. Katsuko's knowing use of the axiom that a teenagers's pride would outmatch his common sense anytime and the nightmare fish will be remembered and enjoyed for a long time.
Gestalt and the reversion of Kuromaru was a relief. Waki is always a hoot, and I love seeing Yasuo quietly and competently taking care of clan business -- even when it requires creativity and risk. A perfect set-up for Blood Will Make it Better. The pain in the latter just reverberates, and while it doesn't shatter bonds it gives them a big shake. The moment Ryouma finds it easier to shave by pretending to scrape the razor down someone's throat se the tone perfectly. Kuromaru's behavior, so true to the canine world and so wrong at the same time, gets right to the readers' hearts while demolishing the small sprouts of hope that his reunion with Ryouma would be healing for both. The confrontation between Yasuo and Ryouma cuts to the quick with both hurting so much. Ryouma's desire for blood, especially if it was his own, is devestating. The observations of who would be Tsume's present and future, each to a degree wanting what the other has while not being able to be what she needs in the other's role, might have been spoken from the desire to hurt the other, but showed the courage of each in their appointed roles. The showing of Inuzuka clan dynamics playing out in the background is always fascinating.
Not surprisingly, it is "The Safest Place You've Found" that I love the most, leaving me ecstatic that Kakashi seems to accept that he can't and doesn't want to chase Ryouma away, and finally gets some rest. Of course he had to be driven far past his limits to get to that point, but the catharsis was well worth it. I should have, but did not anticipate how Shiba would end up being a reverse of the alarm for which Kakashi originally summoned her. Eisuke was just right as an annoying neighbor showing up at just the wrong times like a feather tipping the scales that last irrevocable bit. The way in which Ryouma took down the door (and Kakashi's reaction) was amazing, and beautifully executed. Pakkun and Hoshkia were delights, especially Hoshika's soft scratch at the door and later lending much needed chakra. The conversation about Ginta was as heartwarming as it was revelatory about each character (and leaves us anxious about his next appearance with Ryouma) Ryouma's refusal to be left behind, and statement that Kakashi stops his world from falling apart are the kind of seminal statements that feel like the world (of Fallen Leaves at least) stops so they can be inscribed in the quiet. Kakashi's desperate statements of truth, while he is almost (or beyond) insane from lack of sleep and too much stress, asking Ryouma not to go and to just tell him what it will take to keep him alive are similarly seminal made all the more powerful by just how much it took to bring Kakashi to the point where he would reveal so much. The note of hope, as Kakashi finally gets some rest, is one I hope means that Kakashi will find himself needing to build a new paradigm, this time accepting at least one friend.

YOU ARE MY NEW FAVORITE PERSON. This is the best review ever. *GRINS* Thank you! :D
I love Yasuo, I really do. He's very good at what he does--which, for a long time, was being the second in command for the entire clan. He hasn't completely stepped down from that role, and I don't think he ever really will. It's nice to be able to show him in something like Gestalt, where he not only has the ability, but he knows who has more ability and when to turn things over to them, as well as having the authority--he's got some pretty heavy trust there, to be the only other person allowed to make calls for Kuromaru. ;)
Blood--healing for both? MWAHAHAHA. We're much too evil for that. >.> Though we do have a plan for this, and some long-term repercussions. Hopefully I can keep him both doglike and wrong, and explain it well enough to be understandable. Everything makes sense in my head... ;)
The observations of who would be Tsume's present and future, each to a degree wanting what the other has while not being able to be what she needs in the other's role
*dances!* Yes, exactly! *grins* They really are both hurting, and lashing out. Somehow, I doubt these two will ever get along. >.>
These guys both do impress me--just for what you said, courage in the face of what they can't have. Poor guys, the both of them. Hopefully they will figure something out.
Thank you so much! This giant review seriously made my night. *GRINS*

You guys had me hooked from the title. Awesome job. I finished it, stared at the screen for a minute, and then I went and read it again. Once again, you made me so damn proud to be part of Fallen Leaves. Because even if I'm not doing the writing you are, at least I cam claim a relation XD
Keep up the good work ^^

I love it! So sweet, but with hints that not all is well. I adore Hoshi - it's amazing that she can be so warm and trusting with what we've heard about her past, and yet it seems so completely true to her character. I'm so glad that Haruichi has someone like her! And it seems like he does appreciate her properly =)
Tell me, did you plan the thing with Hoshi's orange eyes and Genma's old mission from the beginning? I was just staring at the screen gaping when I realized what you were setting up there. I can't wait to see the fallout from that, although I'm sure that it'll be, y'know, horrible...

Awwww, I love them both. Hoshi is awesome. I love the little glimpses we get into her backstory, and she's just so darn SWEET.
Her job to help take of the ANBU, now that Haruichi's the medic, is brilliant. Kuromaru thinks it's brilliant, too. He would like a sparkly eyepatch, please and thank you. *shot!*

When Nothing is Right

How tragically touching. There is nothing Tsume needs more than her family, because only they can understand what she is going through. But because of her standing in her clan she cannot go home.
Yasuo is being so supportive and protective - Tsume really needs to treat him better even if he isn't alpha male. Tori is being what every big sis should be.
Kuromaru is so broken. Taken down by an alpha male who is now sleeping with his Tsume (so any time she visits he would smell that). It has to be confusing for him in all sorts of ways, especially since Ryouma doesn't seem to want to finish what he started with the initial attack.
Sad chapter but very well written.

I really liked how Tsume's sister was really supportive and protective of her, even if pack behavior means it's (dangerous?) for her to go home. Because no matter what, her family is there for her. I wasn't sure how much I like Yasuo at first, but now I have a lot of respect for him. He's just a person who can keep things together, no matter what. I love love *love* Kuromaru, and I hope he gets better! Note- Naruto chapter 429, page 8, bottom left column: Tsume swagger and Kuromaru smirk for the *win* :)

The sheer awesomeness of Fallen Leaves

(
link
)
Oh gods, I finally managed to leave a comment here. I am a HUGE fan of everyone here. I came across Scarlet Spiral years ago, and promptly fell in love. So, needless to say, I've stalked everyone here, and must say that I am immensely glad that everyone's still writing. Seeing as the new year is starting, I'd like this opportunity to wish everyone a good year ahead, and greal luck in the ensuing years.
It sounds weird, but Fallen Leaves has very much become the staple of my literary diet. Because everyone's writing is just so. Darn. Great.
I can't seem to find the correct words to describe the wonders Fallen Leaves has done for me, whether to cheer me up or help me settle into a morose mood for sketching, or something like that. Fallen Leaves is like a gift for people who have been wandering around searching for something so perfect to read. I thank whatever circumstance that led me to chance upon the link to Scarlet Spiral so long ago. I scarcely believe how long it's been, how much time has passed, how the characters have seemed to grow...
It's amazing, how the characters have been portrayed so beautifully by such wonderful (ANGELS IN THE FORM OF WRITERS!!!) people. This rp is like a heaven for me; A place where every character is so palpably human, and where writer's styles mesh together as though it was all Meant To Be. Each character and their individual quirks are, in a word, perfect.
Like Genma, whose personality, quirks, senbon, and hands have made me see what great writing can do: bring characters to life in a way nothing else can imitate.
Kakashi, and his fears, and desperate hope, whose guilt and reclusive behaviour has made my heart ache for him, when he takes refuge in his dogs, and everything he tries to do, I am utterly reminded of how REAL every character has become.
For Ryouma, whose personality makes me wish he was real ('sides, he's ... hot.) , Whose tattoos and tanned skin makes me kinda yearn he was real. Whose fears and hopes, whose insistence that he stay by Kakashi, whose loyalty to his friends... Ah, I can't explain it.
And Ginta, who is, love. Enigmatic, and so utterly magnetic. And still human, beyond that cheery cute smile.
Raidou, whose bond with Genma has made me cry. Whose determination has filled me with awe at the Greatness to which a person can achieve, with a bond as strong as what he and Genma have.
Haruichi, whose return to ANBU was celebrated with much glee on my part. Who couldn't love such a snarky Hyuuga, anyways?
And Everyone Else, because everyone here is Sheer Genius. Angels of Literature. Godsends. I would carve a monument, if I had a mountain, and knew your faces.
Beyond all this, I've gotta say, that the characters I've seen, their dedication, to this service and to their Kage has made my heart ache, because, not only is their dedication and honour so strong it gives me shivers, it kind of makes me yearn for the world of Fallen Leaves was real. It's not really moral of me to wish such a thing, but if Fallen Leaves was real, if there was such hardship, psychosis, and utter brokenness of it's people was real, that would also mean that the strength of honour, friendship, and loyalty would be just as strong, if not stronger, than it's foes.
For someone young and newly inducted into the world as me, Fallen Leaves has broadened my mind, enriched my reading diet, and has made me fall hopelessly in love. I am very much a Fallen Leaves junkie. I have no intention of going to rehab anytime soon.
So, to all writers, a great big Gamabunta-sized thank you. For what you all have given us junkies! I hope very much, that in time, I will have the honour of reading published works by those who would aspire to become writers. And in the meantime, I will gleefully partake in reading the events that have captured my mind so utterly.
I realise this is a rather lengthy praise-fest, sorry! But yeah, these words have been fermenting in my head, longing proclaim the awesomeness of Fallen Leaves!
Wishing a good year ahead, because, seriously, you guys ROCK. And well wishes to any agents suffering.
P.S.: I wonder what'll happen to Ginta and Kakashi...?
Love,
Silvercaffiene

OK, Tsume and Raidou and their oh so not complicated not-relationship. I love it. *grins* Really.
It is so interesting how you two developed the interaction between them since their first meeting. Two steps forward, one step backwards. And sometimes the other way round. Convincing and fitting.
And poor Raidou for being forced to put up with Kaito and the bloodline. At the moment I have the constant wish to hug him and Genma for all the trouble. *pats them*

I applied to this community before reading fully the guidelines. Please ignore my request, as I do not have the background or inclination to play in this world.
I do intend to enjoy the community's expertise and wonderful writing at the sidelines.
JBMcDragon lured me over here with her well placed plug in LJ.

Nice job, JB and Suz!
The description of Hayate going through his sword katas was evocative--you could feel the wind rushing as Hayate blurred through his forms.
Tsume's maternal concern for Kuromaru colors all her interactions and is well written. Kuromaru himself was a riot XD.

I really liked this one. You two did a great job writing out the interactions and emotions, especially the internal ones Katsuko was feeling. (And Ryuichi gets mentioned! A lot! That makes me happy ^^)

*heaves a great sigh*
Kaito smiled lopsidedly, chewing on his lower lip. "Do I get an extension?" Blue eyes flicked up under his eyelashes, his smile a little sheepish and a lot hopeful.
Rrrawrgh . . . >_>
YOU SHAN'T WIN, DAMN YOU! I SHALL RESIST!! >_<
*sighs again and discreetly cuddles Kaito plushie*
Conflammit. *evil eye*
Ahem, ANYWAY.
Kaito's charm and vulnerability in this thread were really nice, but I'm still put off by his immaturity and his inexperience. I think I need to see him on another mission and get a better feel for him as a shinobi. Hope to see that in future. ^.~
Genma was great in the role of mentor. The way he used analogies to try and explain things was very sensei-like. I've been wanting to see him interact with someone younger/less experienced, and I was not disappointed. I knew he'd be good at it, and even though I don't get the same kind of "older brother" feeling from Genma's interactions with Kaito as I get from Raidou's, Genma stills feels just as dependable; the way a sensei should feel.
I'm looking forward to seeing the relationships develop between these three. ^.^

If the Door's Still Open
:
Oh dear goodness gracious . . .
This thread made me so so so afraid for the friendship between these two. I've really enjoyed their earlier interactions from way back in the war days, to Ginta as Seishi working with Ryouma and Team Badass, to when they met up in ANBU again. I really enjoyed the way they got along.
I was cringing throughout this thread, biting my nails and facepalming. The tension was enough to make me choke at times. The way Ginta keeps trying to convince himself he doesn't care; the way everything Ginta says just seems to come out so
wrong
. All his little idiosyncrasies make the scene in the apartment so damn poignant and real, three dimensional to the point it's almost physical enough that you can reach out and touch it.
"And he didn't really have anyone else to talk to at all."
That shredded my heart oh so mercilessly. That, and the sort of quiet resignation that settled over him when he realized how strong Ryouma's feelings were before even Ryouma does.
And there's another thing that kills me here. Ryouma's so deep in denial about how he feels he's actually handing out advise about how get to Kakashi, and reassuring Ginta he's not in the way. Oh my dear silly boy. *pats him on the head*
It got to the point where I didn't know if I wanted to hug Ginta to pieces, slap the denial outta Ryouma, or just sit there tearing my hair out. *headdesk* In other words, I effin' loved every minute of it.
The Safest Place You've Found
:
Plucking
ducks, yo.
Dudes. Seriously. GenRai is my Fallen Leaves OTP, okay?
Stop
trying to beat it. Or better yet, you *points at Dark* and Nezu hurry and post that GenRai mission you mentioned to me way back when so I can start saying with absolute unshakable certainty that they are still my FL OTP and that Ryou/Kashi
aren't
superseding them LIEK WOAH.
Well, what the hell can I say about this thread? I honestly have no idea because the awesomeness of the whole thing leaves me much too incoherent to write anything of value or sense to anyone except my caffeine saturated brain cells. I want to say something brilliant about how profoundly this touched me, and how it wrecked emotional havoc on me in a way no other thread here to this date has, but I can't think of words because this leaves me without any. I can't even squeal or fangirl about it, and that ladies is a feat, I'll have you know.
Write MOAR. Write MOAR and do it soon. Write MOAR and keep writing about them until your arms fall off. Write MOAR and don't stop even when your arms fall off; learn to write with your toes, hire a typist, develop telepathy and psychically transfer your stories into our brain. I don't care how you do it, just write MOAR.

FL is a wonderful thing filled with talented writers. Everyone does a great job making things believable and enjoyable.
The threads I love best are the 'less important' ones. The ones that aren't missions, but simply the human interactions of Konoha's finest spooks. Maybe I'm just more drawn to human interactions.
Anything with Hayate and Kotetsu being teenaged boys I enjoy! They're fun, bouncy, and I always come away with a smile. (Kudos for Suz for writing such a shy character! I'm an extremely shy person myself, and Hayate's spot on!) Kotetsu and Ryuichi are the same way, thought not as bouncy. I've also loved the recent thread with Katsuko and Kotetsu. They're a blast.
Ah, and I adore Sna's writing, whether she'd doing Haruichi or Hoshi. Anything with them in it is bound to be interesting!

Honestly I didn't expect that Raidou's reaction after "Equilibrium" would be that bad. On the other hand reading FL for quite a while now I should have seen it coming.
It is a great thread and I enjoyed every second of it. Being torn between angst and laughter is always good and you really manage that well.
"If only so he had enough co-ordination to get up and kick Genma's foolish ass around the cell until some sense got knocked back in.
That or hug him. It was hard to decide."
Yes, Raidou, I agree with you on that. :D
But nevertheless it is highly entertaining to see those two dance around each other and Raidou trying to figure out his feelings for Genma.
*eyes Tsume and Kaito* And you two better behave in the future. :P
